Bradford Christian Academy’s required community service program gives students the opportunity to apply their faith in practical acts of service to others. Students are required to complete 15 hours of service each year outside of school with an organization of their choice. By volunteering for churches, literacy organizations, elder service programs, and other charitable groups, students grow beyond themselves, expand their educational horizons, and experience the joy of giving to others. BCA students have worked enriching the lives of others within their own home churches in Sunday school, nursery and toddler programs, Vacation Bible School settings, in neighborhood nursing homes and retirement communities, in community shelters and food pantries, and for environmental, literacy, and outdoor education programs.
Short-Term Missions Project
Last year fifteen BCA high school students flew to the community of Batey Angelina, Dominican Republic on a short-term missions trip with BCA staff Sharon Ziegler, Doug Osterloh, Barbara Greenwood, Elizabeth Moreau, and Margaret Cottrell with her husband Mark and their young sons. Over February vacation, our students helped build additional classroom space for a church and school sponsored by Compassion International. Students also shared their faith and participate in a Vacation Bible School program for the local children. Students were required to raise the funds to participate as well as extra money for the building supplies and Vacation Bible School materials. Mark Cottrell, recently returned from Batey Angelina, with wonderful reports of a finished classroom and blessing from all our friends and fellow believers in the Dominican Republic. BCA will plan additional missions trips for high school students every two to three years.
