BRADFORD CHRISTIAN ACADEMY ANNOUNCES ADDITION OF NEW TEACHERS, NEW GRADE LEVEL, ADVANCED ACADEMIC CURRICULUM, AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

BRADFORD, MA, Sept. 10, 2007 – Bradford Christian Academy (BCA) starts the 2007-2008 school year with announcements about several new developments about the school including a newly added 12th grade and the hiring of several new teachers.  In addition, BCA has added Honors and Advanced Placement classes in Math, Science, Spanish, and Literature continuing its focus on college preparatory curriculum.

New Teachers

Matt Perusse and Heather Gaither join current BCA faculty member Carolyn Sawyer to form a new Language and Communication Arts Department, which will also include new studies in rhetoric, debate, and public speaking as part of the high school English curriculum.

Perusse will teach 6th and 7th grade Language Arts, Honors 20th Century Literature for juniors and seniors, and Communication Arts classes including drama instruction, community building, media studies through the lens of faith, playwriting, and film producing.  He will also direct the school’s winter and spring theater productions, which are part of BCA’s after school Theater Program.  Perusse graduated from Gordon College with a degree in Communications and Spanish.  Prior to joining the BCA faculty, he taught at Portsmouth Christian Academy where he served as a middle school teacher and director of theater.  Perusse earned his Master's of Education from Gordon and Emerson Colleges.  He brings to his new position a background a background in film and media, having appeared in several films, television series and national commercials.

Gaither joins BCA’s faculty to teach 8th grade Language Arts and 9th grade English.  An experienced, certified middle and high school Language Arts teacher, she graduated from Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri with an English major and subsequently earned a Masters of Education at Lesley University in Cambridge, MA.  Prior to joining BCA, she taught Language Arts, Yearbook Publication and Drama for West Junior High School, Smithton Middle School and Hillcrest High School in Springfield, Missouri.

Douglas Osterloh joins BCA’s newly expanded Science Department.  Osterloh will teach 9th grade Biology and Honors Biology, 10th grade Chemistry and Honors Chemistry, Marine Biology and Advanced Placement Biology.  He brings to this position a strong math and science background, having majored in biology in college.  He began his teaching career after completing law school and practicing as an attorney for a number of years. Prior to joining the BCA faculty, he taught high school science in the Sanborn Regional School system.

BCA has added Harry Daniels to its Math Department, where he will teach Advanced Placement Calculus. Daniels earned his undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Wagner College and a Masters Degree from Fairfield University in Mathematics Education. He began his career teaching in Rye, New York.  He has taught all levels of math in grades 7-12 and also served as Curriculum Coordinator and Department Chair in the Newburyport and Hamilton-Wenham school districts.


Cassie Doyon has joined BCA to teach middle school Art. She received her Master of Arts in Art Education from Tufts University in affiliation with The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Her work has been exhibited locally as well as in New Mexico, Washington, Florida, Colorado and Connecticut. She taught art for Boxford Academy grades 1-6 and completed her student teacher internship in the Wilmington, MA school system.


Rafael Bueno, Jr. joins BCA’s faculty to coach middle school soccer. He graduated from Franklin Pierce College with a degree in Computers and Management.  He was a soccer coach for intown, travel, and indoor soccer for eight years in Methuen, MA, coaching children between the ages of 5 and 15.  He was also a youth leader for AWANA and director of games for Vacation Bible School for Marsh Corner Community Church in Methuen, where he is also a member of the trustees.  In addition to his position at BCA, he works at Sungard Securities Finance in Salem, NH, as a Senior Computer Operator. 


After School Programs
BCA has also added several after school clubs for the upcoming school year, including drama, and middle and high school art leagues.  An interscholastic soccer team will compete in the fall, Boys and girls basketball teams will compete in the winter when the girls will play to retain their championship title from last year. BCA also plans to offer yearbook, ski, wrestling and other clubs based on student interest. The school will also continue its horseback riding club, which takes place at Atkinson Riding Academy.
