BCA Student Selected To Attend People To People International Summit

Lucas

BRADFORD, MA, Nov. 14, 2005 – Lucas Caruso, an 8th grade student at Bradford Christian Academy, recently joined a select group of students representing their school, community and country at the People to People International Summit held in London, Paris and Brussels.

The International Summit brings together outstanding student leaders from around the United States and the world to focus on leadership and international relations. It is intended to provide students with skills that will help them develop as the leaders of tomorrow, while earning academic credit. The program included presentations on the role of the European Union held at British Parliament buildings, opportunities to meet with students at Elton College in the UK , and excursions and discussions that helped delegates discover the political, economic and cultural links between the United States and Europe.

Caruso, who lives in West Newbury , was one of only 75 students from the United States and Canada chosen to attend the Summit as a People to People student leader. He previously completed a People to People leadership program, earning acceptance into the Summit as an honored member of the program alumni. To participate in a leadership program, students must be nominated and accepted based on scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential.

“I really enjoyed meeting everyone from the United States and abroad, exchanging ideas and seeing how they lived,” said Caruso. “I was surprised to hear the opinions about America from different people in different countries. The program showed us how we could create good alliances with people in other parts of the world.” Caruso added that he looked forward to forming lasting friendships with some of the students he met in the UK as part of the program.

“The International Summit offers a rare opportunity for aspiring young leaders to consider European perspectives on world affairs while connecting with the people and cultures of England , France and other countries. We are all very proud of Lucas’s accomplishments and look forward to his sharing what he’s learned with other students at our school,” said Larry George, headmaster of Bradford Christian Academy .

The program is coordinated by People to People Ambassador Programs to fulfill the vision Dwight D. Eisenhower had for fostering world citizenship when he founded People to People during his presidency in 1956. For additional information, please visit www.ptpinternationalsummit.org.
