BCA Students Visit Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court
BRADFORD, MA, May 2006 – Students from Bradford Christian Academy had an opportunity to observe the judicial process in action. Accompanied by headmaster Larry George, the 10 th grade class observed Alliance Defense Fund attorney Jordan Lorrence present oral arguments defending supporters of a proposed state constitutional amendment that defines marriage as a union between one man and one woman.
The “day at court” was outside the Academy’s core curriculum, which does not include civics. However, George emphasized that this provided a unique setting to encourage critical thinking and analysis.
“We wanted to give our students an opportunity to observe and analyze the judicial process and make it come alive. This was a unique opportunity for them to witness highly skilled lawyers present views on high profile social issues,” said George.
Students also met with Attorney Lorrence and his staff over lunch, enabling them to delve deeper into the issues and also learn about his career path and experiences appearing in various courtrooms, including the US Supreme Court.
The Alliance Defense Fund is a legal alliance that defends religious freedom through strategy, training, funding and litigation.
